Rock wharf luminous lagoon11/29/2023 The luminous blue colour was quite spectacular. For me it was one of those once in a lifetime experiences. The water was warm and the glow around us when we were treading water was amazing. When we got on the boat we were taken out into the middle of the lake and had around 30 minute swim time. There are a few market stalls selling all the usual souvenirs, we did get some decent deals but did spend a fair bit. Waited around an hour for our boat in which time there was no fire show or anything as advertised. We were on the 2nd lot of boats going out, it was very busy. When done swimming, you get back on the boat and they swing it in a large crescent for a sweeping trail of blue light, which would be your best picture opportunity as the light is otherwise pretty dim. Apparently there are small jellyfish which can sting you-my wife and I did not get stung but a couple of other tourists did, although they said it just felt like a momentary pinprick. The lake is not deep but at 5'8" I did not feel like I could just stand up, so I would recommend wearing a provided life vest if you're worried about your swimming. You get a free small rum punch or fruit punch and then hop on a boat for a few minutes into the middle of the lake, where you can swim around and marvel at the electric blue dinoflagellates which make you feel like you're in the movie Avatar. Admission to the Lagoon is $25pp which is pricey but this is a unique experience that I think is worth paying for. I ended up doing a combined Rosehall Great House / Luminous Lagoon private driver tour w/ Jamaica Get Away Travels for $50pp x 3 ppl w/ pickup at our hotel in Montego Bay. I guess they offer $25 pickup but you have to have a minimum number of people. Happy travels!
